The Kentucky Derby is already called “the greatest two minutes in sports,” but this year’s race will have even greater historical significance as it celebrates its 150th anniversary.

Since the first edition in 1875, the race has become the longest continuously held sporting event in the United States, and arguably one of its most beloved sporting events.

Over the years, the Kentucky Derby has witnessed sporting drama, controversy and crowned some of the best racehorses in history.

This year promises to be no different with a legendary jockey trying to win his first Derby, and the continued absence of the most recognizable name in the sport.

The Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 4, and television coverage will begin at 2:30 PM ET on NBC and Peacock.

The race itself is scheduled to start at 6:57pm ET.
