What is a boutique hotel? Travel & Leisure picks four in Asheville

It’s no secret to locals and tourists alike that boutique hotels are hugely important to the city. a May 5 article from Travel + Leisure Highlights a thriving business.

Travel + Leisure initially praised Asheville’s extensive hospitality, which includes acclaimed restaurants, independent boutiques, more than 50 craft breweries and live music venues.

According to a Travel + Leisure article, Asheville’s growing boutique hotel scene matches the region’s thriving unique industries.

What is a boutique hotel?

Boutique hotels are defined by their smaller guest capacity and inviting, personal feel. Each hotel in the Travel + Lifestyle article has fewer than 100 rooms.

The radical

The Radical Hotel, located in Asheville’s River Arts District, was the first hotel to be mentioned in a Travel + Lifestyle article. The hotel’s website describes it as an ideal home base for artists, adventurers, foodies, people who love the outdoors, and families.

The Radical features boutique facilities, including an on-site café, Afterglow, Golden Hour restaurant and The Roof rooftop bar.

Located near New Belgium Brewing, Bull and Beggar and Hi-Wire Brewing, as well as the countless art studios the area is known for, this riverfront hotel was a strong opening choice for Travel + Lifestyle.

Dear Zelda

Inside the Zelda Dearest Boutique Hotel in Asheville.

The most recent option that contains It has already received a lot of attentionHotel Zelda Dearest is a unique boutique hotel inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald, who spent the last several years of her life in Asheville. The site offers 20 rooms spread across three historic Victorian mansions.

Located next to its Lark Hotels sister property, Blind Tiger, Zelda Dearest is close to many favorite spots for Asheville visitors and residents alike. There is also a Wine & Roses lounge bar attached.

Blind tiger

Blind tiger It aims to evoke the feeling of staying with a friend who knows the best spots in Asheville. The hotel has just 14 rooms and is set in a former private house dating from 1889 and features eclectic, antique and contemporary décor.

Blind Tiger is located in the heart of downtown Asheville, within walking distance of many popular spots, including Orange Peel, Tupelo Honey, the Asheville Museum of Art, and more.

Flat iron hotel

Flat iron hotelThe last location mentioned by Travel + Leisure is another hotel rich in history. The Flatiron Building, where the aptly named hotel is located, is one of the first skyscrapers built in the now vibrant city of Asheville.

The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and was purchased in 2019 by developers who renovated it and turned it into a boutique hotel. The hotel’s website says the developers hope to “fulfill the building’s historic goal of signaling to the world that Asheville is — and always has been — a place of consequences.”

Another city center option located next to spots like Grove Arcade, Jack of the Wood and Red Ginger Dimsum & Tapas, the hotel offers a rooftop bar, café, co-working and event spaces in addition to 71 rooms.
