There was one thing missing from the last Oscars ceremony, though Barbie. It seems that the relationship is over. At least this is the case when it comes to occasions when relationships are traditionally required.

on Oscars red carpet In March, Hollywood’s leading men, including Bradley Cooper, Robert Downey Jr., and Ryan Gosling, along with a slew of other actors, chose not to wear tie — the nitty-gritty, one would think, of a black-tie event. Instead, shirt collars were unbuttoned and fluttered in the breeze as the stars walked into the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

They looked good. Elegant, even. Some might argue that this was merely cocktail attire, where ties were optional, yet still met the formal requirements of the night. Fashion historians would suggest that black tie began as a less formal alternative to the more restrictive white tie, making it inherently more adaptable.

It is worth noting that while Hollywood’s leading men have abandoned their relationships, They added other decorative touches Like a brooch to elevate their suit into something appropriate for the event. But now for the paradox: The best time to wear a tie today is when you’re off the clock. During recent fashion shows in Milan and New York, accessories were still a big part of the collections. Case in point, Prada.

The Italian brand is a fairly good barometer of the next wave of menswear, and instead of a suit, creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons have tweaked the tie into something more casual, pairing their denim version with a double-breasted denim shirt and jeans. It’s a look that gives the so-called Canadian tuxedo a run for its money.

In a similar fashion, French brand Marine Serre also combined ties with denim and trenches – sans a jacket – and the entire look came printed with its signature crescent moon motif. Ferragamo chose monochromatic leather ties in earthy tones. At Tommy Hilfiger, ties emerged from under hoodies and sweaters, paired with chinos and oversized sneakers.

It’s been happening off the runways, too. The peacocks of Pitti Uomo, Florence’s annual men’s fashion trade show held in January, were spotted sporting ties with some truly unexpected pairs. Like a flight suit, complete with leather jacket. It’s not a look for everyone and might be a bit difficult in an office scenario. Another accessible method is to simply add it under a college knit sweater with a baseball cap.

So, while ties are moving out of formal scenarios, they are simultaneously finding their way into weekend wardrobes. Which means you might want to keep your Half Windsor skills handy for now.
