Boston’s TD Garden named one of the 10 best sports venues

BOSTON – TD Garden received a much-needed facelift completed in 2020, and is now home to the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins ranked as one of the best sports venues in the country.

It also helps that the teams that decorate the hardwood or ice at the park are very good. The Celtics stunned the TD Garden crowd on Tuesday night, pulling off an improbable victory over the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Few things beat a raucous garden party in Boston.

But playing the Celtics and Bruins isn’t the reason Front Office Sports, which covers the business side of sports, ranked TD Garden on its list of the 10 best sports venues. Front Office Sports has released the best locations to watch Wednesday’s game, ranking the venues with the best fan experience in the country.

In Boston, it starts before you even enter TD Garden, where the massive entrance gives fans the feeling of walking into a special place. (Before the renovations, it felt like you were walking into a train station that also happened to host sporting events.) And with renovated fan and team spaces, a massive 4K video board, and a number of innovative social spaces and menu options for fans inside, TD Garden is among the best in the world. Sports.

Front Office Sports compiled its list in collaboration with the Sports Innovation Lab, as venues across the country responded to questions about its technology, mobile app features, food options/dietary inclusivity, transportation offerings, and mixed-use functionality. The overall design of the place was also taken into consideration.

“Front Office Sports’ Best Place Winners Award removes subjectivity from ranking the best places to watch the game,” Josh Walker, CEO and co-founder of the Sports Innovation Lab, said in a statement Wednesday. “This final list is derived from our proprietary methodology that scores and ranks venues based on factors identified by some of the industry’s leading experts. As teams look to evolve their in-game experience to increase attendance, they can look to venues on this list for ways to meet the needs of future fans.”

The top 10 haven’t been announced in any particular order, but here are the other nine places ranked.

  • Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Home of the Sixers, Flyers, Villanova men’s basketball and NLL Wings
  • State Farm Arena, Atlanta, Georgia: Home of the Falcons
  • Churchill Downs Racetrack, Louisville, Kentucky: Home of the Kentucky Derby
  • Citi Field, New York, New York: Home of the Mets
  • Globe Life Field, Arlington, Texas: Home of the Rangers
  • Moody Center, Austin, Texas: Home of the University of Texas men’s and women’s basketball
  • Prudential Center, Newark, NJ: Home of the Devils and Seton Hall men’s basketball
  • Frost Bank Center, San Antonio, Texas: Home of the Spurs,
  • Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, Florida: Home of the Dolphins and University of Miami football
