Animal Crossing: What’s New in April 2024 (Bugs, Fish, Seasonal Items)

April’s fun outdoor events are great for the social butterflies in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Creature Collectors also have plenty of creatures to hunt.

Most of these creatures are easy to catch, but extreme caution is advised when catching scorpions. If the player misses, runs away, or gets too close, the scorpion will become aggressive, attack the player, and attempt to sting them. In the event of a sting, players lose consciousness and wake up in front of their homes. As such, the best tactic is to approach the scorpion slowly and stop moving if it raises its arms to attack.

Players in the Southern Hemisphere may have some trouble discovering the new bugs. Mole crickets are invisible. Instead, players must follow the sound of their peeps and use their shovels to dig them. Additionally, tarantulas behave similarly to scorpions and are just as dangerous as their real-life counterparts.

Despite the danger, the players have figured out a way

To make it easier to catch fast creatures in the deep sea, try swimming toward the edges of the map. If a creature collides with the edge of the map, it is forced to change direction, which may allow players to intercept it.

May events and seasonal items

In previous years, May events actually started early in April With the Nature Day eventWhich lasted from April 23 to May 4. However, since 2021, the Nature Day event has been reduced to a smaller event and players can no longer complete any Nature Day activities. Nature Day is now taking place at Nook Shopping between April 15th and 22nd. This is the only time of year that players can purchase Cool Globe Decoration.

The only other Nook Shopping event in May is Mother’s Day (May 1-31). Players can purchase a Thank-You Mom mug and a special carnation ornament.

Although Earth Day is no longer a major celebration, other events provide plenty of opportunities for players to participate in activities. Labor Day runs from April 29 to May 7, and players can purchase a special Labor Day ticket to join the Nook Island Tour. This takes them to a new island where they can complete the Labor Day Maze for prizes. This includes Bell Vouchers, which can be converted into bells, a Rover briefcase and Rover’s Photo Furniture items.

International Museum Day takes place from May 18 to 31. IIf players build the museum on their islands, they can participate in special stamp gatherings hosted by Blathers. This involves collecting stamps from three stamp machines in each wing of the museum (fossils, artwork, fish, insects and deep-sea creatures). By collecting three stamps, players receive a completion stamp and an exclusive plaque that matches the wing they discovered.

Finally, players in the Southern Hemisphere can enjoy mushroom season throughout the month of May. During the month, mushrooms will spawn in random locations across players’ islands. They can be picked or pitted and used in special seasonal recipes. DIY recipes from the Mush Collection can be found by popping the balloons that sometimes float above the island. Northern Hemisphere players get into mushroom season in November.

In general, May is one of the best months Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Dangerous new insects, massive rare fish, and deep-sea creatures give collectors a real challenge, and special events give players the opportunity to explore their museum collections and enjoy the great outdoors.
