A former Hoboken High School football and basketball star was shot and killed late Sunday night outside the city Housing Authority building.

Damon “Nono” Murray, 21, who graduated in 2020 after a stellar career as a wide receiver and defensive back, was shot in the abdomen at 11:30 p.m. outside 320 Marshall Dr. and was taken by private vehicle to Jersey City Medical Center. . He was pronounced dead early Monday morning, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.

In his senior season at Hoboken High School, Murray had four touchdown receptions at receiver, but it was at cornerback where he made a name for himself, intercepting five passes. He and teammate Negon Freeman are committed to Rutgers University In April 2020 in the form of tours.

He joined the team as a favorite following his senior season, but left the program after one semester. He did not appear in any matches and has not attended school for three years.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Hoboken Police Department are investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time.
